Chances Galore In Oakleigh Plate

The Oakleigh Plate is traditionally an open betting race and this year’s edition of the Group 1 sprint at Caulfield will be no exception.

Saturday’s race has attracted a diverse final field of 18 acceptors plus three emergencies.

Group 1 proven Flamberge, the winner of The Goodwood in Adelaide last year, heads the weights with 58kg but was dealt a blow in his returning run by drawing gate 17.

Peter and Paul Snowden’s Dothraki is next in saddlecloth order but fared even worse at the draw, coming up with the outside stall but stablemate Bounding fared better in stall eight.

David Hayes and Tom Dabernig have three runners including Fast ‘n Rocking from gate seven, the mare Gregers in one and the three-year-old Keen Array from stall four.

Matthew Dale’s boom sprinter Fell Swoop makes his first attempt at Group 1 company and drew gate five for Glyn Schofield while Heatherly, a winner of her last three outings including big win in the Rubiton Stakes, also has a low draw in gate two.

Two last-start winners to not fare as well at the draw were Headwater in 18 and Vezalay in 20.

Smart filly Secret Agenda looks unlikely to gain a run after being named third emergency.
