Gai Waterhouse unveiled one of what is sure to be a barn full of quality juveniles on Saturday and this one is on target for glory in the Magic Millions on the Gold Coast after winning the Goldners Horse Transport Plate at Rosehill.
The Not A Single Doubt filly Certitude was sent out as a $2.50 favourite with TAB.com.au Fixed Odds after a dominant trial win leading into to her debut and the filly didn’t disappoint her followers.
Ridden by Tommy Bery, Certitude jumped quickly from barrier one and settled in second place outside race leader Crazyonyou (Bowman) after hooking around heels to ensure clear running.
Little changed in the run and after the field rounded the home turn Berry gave the filly a cut with the whip and they loomed up to Crazyonyou however it was at the 175m, when Berry put the whip away that the filly showed what she was made of.
Berry shook Certitude up hands and heels and the filly responded impressively, clearly changing gears and quickly turning a two and a half length lead into a five length margin in the space of 100m.
At the line Certitude held a five length advantage over Crazyonyou with a further length and three quarters to Artistic Lass (Collett) in third place. The overall time was 1.05.29 with the last 600m run in 35s.
“When she trialled we thought she was special and I said to Tommy ‘how would you like to win the Magic Millions three years in a row,’ so she is on track, she is terrific,” Star Thoroughbreds' Denise Martin said.
“She is very mature for a two-year-old filly, she handles everything very well, she is built like a two-year-old, races like a two-year-old and we just love her.
“She was a filly we targeted at the Magic Millions, Gai wanted to train her, I wanted to buy here and it has all worked out very well.
“Great owners, some are long time Star owners and they are looking forward to the Gold Coast.”
“She looked like a Magic Millions filly, that is for sure,” Berry said. “I have ridden a couple of them now and that’s what she feels like.
“She has probably given me the best feel of any two-year-old I have ridden and that is saying something.
“She wasn’t forward and never really travelled outside the leader so I thought I was in trouble a long way out.
“She cruised up at the top of the straight when I pulled her around horses and when I put one on her bum she put me in the back seat she let down that quick.
“The best thing about her when I put the stick away the last 150m she kept finding the line and ran right throughout.”
