Christmas Cup Day At Rosehill Gardens

Racing is back at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday with all eyes on the day's feature event, the Stowe Australia Christmas Cup.

The Cup, the first in the Summer Cup series in Sydney, sees a final field of 12 line up to do battle over the 2400 metres.

Leading the charge is the Kiwi stayer Solid Billing, to be ridden by Jay Ford after a fast finishing sixth in last year's edition.

The 2009 winner Scouting Wide with talented apprentice Taylor Lovelock-Wiggins aboard looms as a big threat.

The Warwick Farm-based Assertive Billy is looking for a hat-trick of wins after saluting at $101 and $11 in his last two starts.

Cranbourne's Sea Galleon will be making the long trip from the south, His co-trainers have booked Glyn Schofield for the five-year-old who was a last start winner at Sandown over the distance.

Adding to the strength of the program is the Welter Handicap over 1400m which has attracted the likes of Voice Commander, Latin News and Scarf who will be looking to bounce back after a first-up seventh at Warwick Farm on 19 November.

The Christmas Cup meeting is a popular one for corporate and social groups celebrating Christmas, with over 4000 hospitality spots sold out well in advance.

Parents can take advantage of free entry for children and as an added bonus, there will be plenty of free entertainment and amusements for the whole family to enjoy including a visit from Santa and his elves fairy floss, face painting, pony rides and live music.

Entry is on sale at the gate - adults are $15 and children who are accompanied by an adult are free.
