Chris Scholtz - Early Thoughts
R&S Contributing Editor Chris Scholtz takes a look at tomorrow’s Sydney racing.
SELECTIONS
Randwick Race 1 - 5 The Autumn Sun
This imposing Redoute’s Choice colt proved a class above his rivals on debut when he rose to expectations with a determined win over 1200m at Randwick a month ago, the feature being the strength he displayed when called on over the last 200m to run past the leaders.
It points to him being even better suited over this longer trip with the benefit of an easy trial since that win that will have improved his fitness.
Randwick Race 5 - 4 After All That
Responsible for one of the best wins of the Scone carnival when he easily overcame a three wide passage to toy with his rivals over 1400m under 60.5kg.
This is his first try at 1600m but he’s previously been effective in two 1500m starts in strong form races and is well placed to take on the extra 100m as he drops 2.5kg off his big Scone win in this same benchmark band.
Randwick Race 7 - 3 Our Century
Classy ex-Lloyd Williams import was having just his second start for his new trainer Kim Waugh when he sat wide but still proved too solid for Ecuador in the Lord Mayor’s Cup over 2000m at Rosehill on May 5, making it four wins from just 14 starts for this lightly-raced 7YO.
Ecuador is 2.5kg better off this time but the 2400m favours a fitter Our Century with his undoubted scope for more improvement.
