Chris Scholtz - Early Thoughts

R&S Contributing Editor Chris Scholtz takes a look at tomorrow’s Sydney racing.

SELECTIONS

Randwick Race 2 - 3 Ghostly

This promising 3YO from the Godolphin stable is going ahead in leaps and bounds. After resuming with a luckless placing at the Scone carnival he found winning form second up when leading and running away from rivals to score over 1250m at Canterbury on May 24.

With a month between runs he has since been back to the trials and underlined his improvement with a classy win over 791m at Warwick Farm on June 15 when he sat behind the pack and then sprinted fast through a split to record a soft win by almost two lengths.

He’s performed confidently on affected tracks and with obvious pace in this field expecting something similar to his latest trial.

Randwick Race 6 - 7 Liapari

On the quick back up from a game win over 1500m at Rosehill last Saturday when he lifted late to beat the well performed Victorian galloper Moss N Dale on the line.

It was a win that had been a long time coming but he is now at his peak and relishes the winter tracks.

Chris Waller has played the ace hand by switching to apprentice Andrew Atkins as his claim sees the gelding benefit from a big weight drop of 6.5kg to 51kg, more than enough to see him measure up to the rise in class.

Randwick Race 7 - 6 Sir Bacchus

Showed a positive return to form at his last start when he finished fast late after being blocked for a run when beaten a nose by Royal Tudor over 1400m at Rosehill on June 3. Confident he is better placed back to 1200m under these conditions, having recorded five of his six wins at this trip with three of them on soft tracks.
