Chris Scholtz - Early Thoughts

R&S Contributing Editor Chris Scholtz takes a look at tomorrow’s Sydney racing.

SELECTIONS

Randwick Race 3 - 1 Acatour

Really got his act together when he ran away with the G3 Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) at this course two weeks ago for his fourth career win in nine starts.

That race is a perfect lead into this event and the way he put his rivals away when revelling in the soft ground indicates he will have no issues coping with the step up to 2000m. Clearly rates as the horse to beat off that performance.

Randwick Race 5 - 4 Astronomos

Had excuses when he just failed to run down Assign in the G3 Neville Sellwood Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill on March 25 when his rider Jason Collett took wrong options at vital stages, an outcome that sees him get a new rider in Craig Williams.

This honest gelding had won by a big space over the Randwick 2000m at his previous start for his third win from three starts over this course and distance and you can expect him to run right up to that form under these suitable conditions as he is at his best on soft tracks and is down 1.5kg on his last start.

Randwick Race 8 - 7 Invincibella

Good filly should be a big improver second up after her tough run when resuming in the G3 PJ Bell Stakes (1200m) at this course two weeks when she was trapped deep in the inferior ground but still made good headway against the pattern late to finish sixth.

Certain to be fitter and will appreciate this longer trip, noting that she beat a good colt in Man Of Uncle over this course and distance in soft going in the spring. Hard to beat if she finds that form.
