Chris Scholtz - Early Thoughts
R&S Contributing Editor Chris Scholtz takes a look at tomorrow’s Sydney racing.
SELECTIONS
This could be a strong form race as the Chris Waller pair Press Statement and So Willie are highly regarded but they are short enough in the early market as this Godolphin youngster has the form and ratings to test the stablemates.
It comes off an excellent debut effort when a closing third over 1250m at Canterbury in a race that has already produced two subsequent city winners.
His natural improvement and the expectation that he will be more comfortable over the extra trip on the bigger Rosehill track make him a worthy gamble.
Quality mare at her best and the signs are good that she is going well for her new trainer Joe Pride following her eye catching fourth over 1600m at Randwick when having her second run for the stable.
The re-application of blinkers is a key gear change, extra distance and her past Group form makes her the one to beat in a race that lacks depth.
John O’Shea’s decision to hold this promising filly back a week to avoid the heavy at Randwick last Saturday should be worth the wait. She was going to tackle a tougher race last weekend but now finds herself against her own sex with the benefit of a 3kg claim for Brodie Loy.
As a result she will be carrying 2.5kg less than her comprehensive first-up 1400m win at Warwick Farm over subsequent winner Campania. Definitely a filly heading for better things.
