Chris Scholtz - Early Thoughts

R&S Contributing Editor Chris Scholtz takes a look at tomorrow’s Sydney racing.

SELECTIONS

Rosehill Race 3 - 9 Murder Of Crows

After an impressive first-up win at this track lost nothing with his last start fourth in this class over this course and distance on August 30 when he only got into his stride in the last 100m on the heavy track.

He’s well off against a similar field on the same weight and can run home over the top of them on a firmer surface, the key being Hugh Bowman finding the galloping room he needs to produce the big finish he displayed first-up.

Rosehill Race 4 - 8 Cluster

Came off a six weeks freshen with an excellent second over 1200m at Rosehill on August 31 when he was left with too much to do on a heavy track when coming from last under 57kg and not surprised to see a riding switch for this race.

Jumps in class from that BM85 to G2 company but he’s always shown the talent to win good races and has the turn of foot to match this field on a firmer track. Expect to see him race closer with the all-important 4kg drop in weight.

Rosehill Race 7 - 12 Better Land

Fair to say he could have won both his Sydney starts at Randwick with better luck. He was posted three wide without cover when a first-up second in the Rosebud and then suffered the worst of the interference caused by the erratic Liberation when he was looming to win the roughhouse Up And Coming Stakes.

The blinkers go on, a gear change Peter Moody has been holding back for this race, and his impressive performances clearly indicate that he will relish the step up to 1400m. This race is all about the horses holding the most scope for improvement and there is no doubt his two luckless lead-up runs have left him with plenty in reserve.

The Offer - Did more than enough first-up after covering ground.
