BLACKBOOKERS & TRIALS

Our Blackbook service provides punters with a great way to keep tabs on horses to follow. Remember you can always click on a horse from the Racing And Sports Database to blackbook it or go straight to our Blackbook section and maintain your stable runners there.

We’ve identified a few here from the last week which we think can make us some money in the near future.

Surge Ahead

While he may not possess the brilliant speed or turn of foot of that of his half brother Smart Missile, the apple still hasn't fallen far from the tree. Having proven too good on debut at Kembla Grange, he proceeded to prove very gutsy when saluting at Warwick Farm last start when fighting back strongly to deny the once highly touted Bernabeu. On paper it does appear a good form race moving forward and he is one worth sticking with this preparation.

Tail And All

Was very well supported late at Eagle Farm last start and easily should have won having only gotten clear very late in the piece. Travelling nicely, he was chopped out for a run at the 400m and was unable to get out into the clear until 150m from home but it was all too late. Really liked the way he surged to the line when finally clear and does appear overdue for a win this time in. We expect him to be very hard to beat win next start if connections elect to tackle a similar race.

Runway Star - Tuesday 1 October @ Rosehill

Well bred filly from the Gerald Ryan stable who proved ultra impressive when taking out her trial on Tuesday morning. Given time to progress, the daughter of Northern Meteor appears to have made good improvement from her last trial back in March when streaking away from her rivals with considerable ease. Recording one of the quickest times of the morning she appears well above average and will take plenty of beating where ever she lines up on debut.

Eligible Blackbookers Racing This Weekend

Some of the recent runners that have been Blackbooked by us are engaged this weekend and we think should be included in your punting thoughts.

Randwick Race 2 - 5 Ghibellines (off the 23 Sept trial)

The Breeders’ Plate has an incredible habit of producing some of the elite 2yos of a season despite being run on the first day of metro juvenile racing. Pierro, Smart Missile, Sebring, Snitzel, Charge Forward over Dance Hero, Choisir, Encounter etc. So expect some good ones in this race and one of them could well be Ghibellines who is the half brother to Guelph. Being by Shamardal, he may well be more an Autumn colt but off the trial he could still win this.

Randwick Race 7 - 11 Lidari

Peter Moody’s import has been running so well in Melbourne this Spring. He does find a very competitive Epsom Hcp but dropping from the weights he’s been carrying in handicap and WFA events back to 53 is a luxury and he can race closer from this gate. Value runner.

Flemington Race 3 - 3 Paximadia (off the 17 Sept trial)

Off his trial, this Snowden 3yo tries to test the Zoustar form lines again. He did win first up last time over this trip and this is hardly a strong race - definitely not up to the level of the Sires and JJ Atkins from the Brisbane Winter Carnival and that form has been holding up across most horses so far this Spring.

Flemington Race 7 - 10 Star Fashion

The Manifold is the last lead into the Thousand Guineas and David Hayes brings his Street Cry filly back from a Morphettville Guineas run where she came from last to miss by a nose. Out of his top mare Elegant Fashion, there is every indication she could end up an Oaks contender and this race has a habit of throwing up the winner of the fillies Spring feature.

Flemington Race 8 - 4 Super Cool

The Derby runner up and Australian Cup winner returns to Flemington for the first time since those top efforts. He was off the bit and chasing in a strange run in the Dato Tan Chin Nam Stks but on the line was punching through as well as anything bar Fiorente. Suspect he’s been trained to peak for this and the Caulfield Cup.

Flemington Race 9 - 4 Sessions

Peter Snowden has seriously taken his time with the son of Lonhro and it may well be paying off. He powered to the line in The Shorts to score by a nose and while 1100m has been his domain to date, a straight 1200m could well allow him to show that turn off foot he owns. It’s not the strongest Gilgai we’ve seen with only Platelet a G1 winner.

Flemington Race 10 - 9 Peron

It was hard to miss the mare in the Sheraco. She was a long way back in an on-pace dominated race and flashed through. Could have run in the Sir Rupert Clarke but they’ve waited a week to run here with the Myer Classic in mind. Looks a far better option in our opinion.
