Tromso goes best fresh
NEW SOUTH WALES
SR 1-2 PURE HUSTLE (Gai Waterhouse): Key trial runner is the Waterhouse runner off his strong Randwick heat win over 740m on 7 October. The stable rarely sends their youngsters to the races under prepared.
SR 2-1 SCOUTING WIDE (Tim Martin): The resuming top weight has had another week of work since his Rosehill 1030m trial win on 11 October. Fresh record is good and 1500m first-up is suitable.
SR 3: Have the connections of (1) STAR MYSTERY been patiently waiting for the right race as it's been a month since he finished third in a 900m trial at Rosehill on 29 September? No doubt the smart filly (5) CINDAROCKINRELLA will sprint up fresh after her soft third in a 900m trial at Rosehill on 11 October.
SR 4-2 SAVANNAH'S CHOICE (Chris Waller): Fitness level second up for her should not be an issue after the first-up winner went back to the trials at Randwick on 21 October for an easy fourth over 1200m.
SR 5: Trials are a big key to this race. (4) TROMSO is best when fresh and the way he worked home under a tight hold for an easy fifth in a Randwick 747m heat 21 October points to him being ready to add to his first-up record. Likewise (5) LATIN NEWS also has impressive first-up stats and he will have taken plenty from his easy third behind Scouting Wide in his Rosehill trial on 11 October. (6) PHENOMENAL LASS made up for missing a start after a track downgrade at Randwick on 15 October with an easy fourth in the same heat as Tromso at Randwick on 21 October.
SR 7: Trial wins by (4) MERCONMAN at Hawkesbury and (11) EMBARRASSED at Rosehill are obvious indicators to their first-up chances but the less obvious unplaced effort by the resuming (2) GIRESUN is also vital. It cannot be taken on face value as he was able to win first-up in February off a similar prep.
SR 8: Solid unplaced trials under no pressure from the Chris Waller stablemates (2) WAZN and (3) COUP AY TEE at Randwick on 21 October. The latter is a nice horse and took the eye working to the line late in his 1050m heat. This is also a suitable race for (4) OTHELLO, who won't be lacking fitness after a hard held second in an 800m trial at Warwick Farm on 14 October. (1) CIRCLE OF POWER also held his ground when fourth in a quicker 800m heat on the same day and he has never missed a place in four first-up attempts.
NSW TRIALLERS RACING INTERSTATE:
MR 8-3 NEESON (Joe Pride): After coming to the conclusion that he is just a sprinting type, Joe Pride has taken his charge to Melbourne for the Salinger after winning the Premiere Stks in fine style. The form from that race is already standing up and he trialled well at Warwick Farm after that race.
VICTORIA
MR 9-9 TORIO'S QUEST (Brett Partelle): Trialled into second last week after a shocking run in the Toorak when plenty of things went wrong. He just needs confidence back after that terrible incident at Rosehill when he took on the outside rail pre-race.
QUEENSLAND
BR 8-7 SOMMERSEA DRIVE (Trevor Miller): Scored in a fit out trial at Sunshine Coast to top him off for an Open Handicap in town. Only thing is his best seems to be on the all weather surfaces.
BR 8-8 CAT EYES (Kelso Wood): While racing well this time in hasn't won yet and went for a tune up at Doomben last week. He is certainly capable of running well this class.
QLD TRIALLERS RACING INTERSTATE:
MR 9-13 LISTEN SON (Tony Gollan): Has been successful in two trials at Doomben on his way to Melbourne for some late carnival action. Stable have gone well at Flemington so they might have picked the right horse again and he ran a cracker in the Stradbroke.
SOUTH AUSTRALIA
AR 7-4 FEAR THE FAITH (Bill Bogarts): After winning on debut went straight for a spell in June. After a break comes back to the races following a win in a Murray Bridge trial. Will be one to watch.
AR 7-6 TANG PROSPER (Tony McEvoy): Talented colt who is resuming but has trialled well recently, the latest an easy fourth on the Parks track earlier this week. Last fresh-up run got back and hit the line hard for fourth in the Group 3 Breeders Stakes.
