Unlucky for the 3rd and 4th placed horses in the Norfolk after The Ridler wiped them out.

There was a stewards enquiry but it resolved that the 50/1 winner had not improved his position by veering across the field.  Jockey Paul Hanagan has received a heft penalty for this but under English rules the result stands and while the favourite Walbank got second the third placed Crispy Cat and fourth placed Brave Nation has every right to feel aggrieved.

No problems in the Ribblesdale where Jessica Harrington's pre-race enthusiasm for her Magical Lagoon was thoroughly justified as she beat Sea Silk Road by ½ length with the O'Brien runner History performing well to take third.

And then the other unlucky horse story came in the Gold Cup.  As expected Truesham was scratched in the morning leaving 9 to run.  We have been a Dettori fan for many years but his ride on Stradivarius was not one of his greatest – he was too far back, got boxed in on the fence and left it too late to come out at which stage he had to go round the whole field and over to the wide outside by which time Ryan Moore and the favourite Kyprios had the Cup in the bag.  Kyprios and second home Mojo Star are both 4yos and both ran great races over the taxing 4000m course under 27 degree heat.  Stradivarius tried hard to catch them but it was too late and so Yeats's record for the most Gold Cup wins still stands.

Unlucky for the Queen too in the Hampton Court when Claymore ran away with the race and her Reach For The Moon was 1 ¼ lengths away in second.
