Big day at Saratoga Saturday

The Alfred G Vanderbilt Gr 1 and the Jim Dandy Gr 2 are the features.

The Vanderbilt is over 1200m with 6 runners headed by Skelly on 6/5 for Asmussen-Santana with a record that shows mainly 1s and 2s ahead of Nakatomi on 5/2 for Ward-Gaffalone.

Then the Jim Dandy which is Gr 2 should really be Gr 1 with a quality field of 6 3yos headed by the handsome and talented Sierra Leone who is on even money in the Morning Line.  Fierceness was scratched from the Haskell to avoid clashing with another Repole owner horse and comes in here on 9/5.  Although there are only 6 runners multiples may be the way to go so we will add Seize The Grey here on 6/1.  This is a no-lasix for 48 hours prior to racing and since that rule came in we haven't noticed horses dropping down like flies.  Would be interesting to see the stats!

A good news story is that a 2yo by Twirling Candy called Tenacious Candy has lived up to her name as she came down with tetanus. The team at UC Davis has managed to save her after quite a struggle as she tore a muscle in her leg early on and had to be in a sling as well as being kept quiet, not easy for a 2yo under any circumstances.  She has now been given the all-clear and is going into our little black book very early as she seems to have both intelligence and a strong will.  Needless to say all the staff at Davis fell I=in love with her and their good care of her was well repaid.
