Conditions at Newmarket on Saturday would have tested the most experienced of campaigners, yet the William Haggas-trained Love Dynasty sailed through the mud to take the 7f Class 4 Betfred TV British EBF Fillies' Novice Stakes in comfortable fashion on debut.
Ridden by Danny Tudhope, the daughter of Dubawi was slowly away but cruised into contention with two furlongs to run, pulling away from the field in the closing stages to register a two-and-a-half length victory over the Charlie Appleby-trained Dubai Melody.
In a post-race interview, Tudhope said: "Fair play to her as it is horrible out there. There is a strong head wind, and it was lashing down with rain in her face. It was testing ground and she travelled super.
"I was confident she would pick up and find what she did going to the line, but she did surprise me how well she was going.
"It probably takes a good horse to do what she has done today. I don't know what she has beat or how good she is, but she has done it well. She will get a mile no problem."
Owned by Clipper Logistics, Love Dynasty was purchased for 190,000 guineas from consignors Barton Stud at Book 1 of the 2022 Tattersalls Yearling Sale. Her half-sister by Zoffany had fetched 200,000 guineas at Book 1 in 2019 and a Siyounihalf-brother achieved 400,000 guineas at the following year's sale.
Although the immediate pedigree may not have drawn the attention of buyers on first glance – dam Geisha Girl was unraced and yet to produce a winner on the track – the second Multicolour Wave may have caused a second look. Although Multicolour Wave (Rainbow Quest) failed to win during her racing career, she has been a sensation at stud, with four of her five raced daughters subsequently producing Black Type performers.
Multicolour Wave's best offspring was Elusive Wave (Elusive City), trained by Jean-Claude Rouget, who won six times between the age of two and four including the Group 1 Pouled'Essai des Pouliches (French 1000 Guineas) and the Group 3 Prix Imprudence. Once retired to stud, Elusive Wave was immediately successful with first foal Brandybend (Galileo) placing multiple times at Listed level. She was subsequently responsible for Japanese Listed winner Admire Virgo (Deep Impact) and Group 2 placed Satono Solomon (Deep Impact).
Elusive Wave was not Multicolour Wave's only success story. Million Waves (Mull of Kintyre) placed at Listed level in Ireland before producing Listed Chester Stakes third Blue Wave (Raven's Pass) whilst two-time winner Million Spirits (Invincible Spirit) was responsible for two-year-old Listed Blenheim Stakes victor Lady Princess (Exceed And Excel). Juvenile success continued with Photophore's (Clodovil) offspring City Image (Elusive City), winner of the Listed Empress Stakes at Newmarket.
With such a proven broodmare pedigree, it is unsurprising that the offspring of Geisha Girl have been successful at the sales. The effortless debut success of Love Dynasty suggests that the filly is already superior to her siblings and she could be the one to continue the Black Type tradition of the maternal line.
