Simon and Ed Crisford’s West Wind Blows will make his Australian debut in Saturday’s Turnbull Stakes at Flemington.
Run over ten furlongs, it is hoped that the Turnbull Stakes will prove an ideal preparation for a tilt at the Group 1 Caulfield Cup on 21 October.
West Wind Blows has enjoyed a successful season in Europe, winning the Group 3 La Coupe at Longchamp on his first start following a gelding operation in early June. He has also placed in the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot and was last seen finishing runner-up in the Group 3 Winter Hill Stakes at Windsor.
In an interview with racing.com, assistant trainer Paul Holley said: "He's run on all types of ground but he does seem to like getting his toe in a little bit.
"He was pretty fit coming out here and he's done a couple of bits since arriving, so I think he'll run a good race and put up a good show."
Jamie Spencer has ridden the gelding on his last three outings and they will retain their partnership in Australia.
"He rides him most times at home, including his last three runs, and comes and rides him work as well, so he knows the horse."
