Richard Hannon’s three-pronged attack on the BetVictor Hungerford Stakes paid dividends as Witch Hunter came from well off the pace to score in comfortable fashion.

The well-regarded four-year-old certainly hasn't been the most straightforward horse in his career thus far but Richard Hannon's gelding proved he was on a going day with Hungerford Stakes success.

Witch Hunter has been kept busy since being gelded this time last year racing fourteen times since November 2022.

Before today his highlight success came when produced masterfully by Jamie Spencer to land the Buckingham Palace Stakes (Handicap) at Royal Ascot in June, with Sean Levey having to be equally good on the tricky son of Siyouni this afternoon.

Stablemate Chindit was sent off the 2/1 favourite to get back to winning ways down in grade, but after travelling arguably better than anything he didn't find much off the bridle and faded into third.

The Roger Varian-trained New Endeavour looked to have the race in the bag entering the final furlong, but Sean Levey had other ideas on Witch Hunter and produced his mount to perfection towards the near side rail. Witch Hunter didn't do much once hitting the front but always had matters under control and had a length to spare over Roger Varian's charge at the line.
