The nine-year-old sustained a serious fracture in his right hind leg while running in the Group Three Nad Al Sheba Trophy and had to be put down.

Bin Suroor told www.godolphin.com: "He was a real character in the yard and was treasured, not only by me, but by everyone here - all of the team; we are very upset by the tragic news. He had a wonderful career and he will be hugely missed."

Cavalryman began his career in France with trainer Andre Fabre and landed the Group One Grand Prix de Paris in 2009.

Switched to Bin Suroor's care the following year, he also won the Dubai Gold Cup in 2013 as well as last year's Princess of Wales's Stakes at Newmarket and the Artemis Goodwood Cup.
