Sent off a hot favourite for the mile and a half Group Two at the Istanbul track, Pether's Moon had been placed in a host of decent events during the summer before winning the Glorious Stakes at Goodwood.

Hughes was anchored at the rear of the field but made a decisive move on the home bend and his mount quickly moved from last to first and had the race wrapped up with a furlong remaining, even if Village Wind had whittled down his advantage by the line.

Hughes and Hannon had the market leader for the International Topkapi Trophy but Toormore could only manage third behind fellow raider Glory Awaits.

Last year's champion two-year-old has not developed at three, and had every chance in the home straight, but Neil Callan rode an astute race from the front on the Kevin Ryan-trained Glory Awaits.

Solid at around Listed level this season, he was a shock runner-up to Dawn Approach in the 2000 Guineas last season and contained William Haggas's Our Channel to ensure the bulk of the lucrative purse went to British interests.

Speaking to Racing UK from York, Ryan said: "He was obviously second in a Guineas and ran really well at the last meeting here.

"The race is worth a lot of money and he loves travelling. Neil had won race before for Michael Jarvis (three times on Pressing) and said the one thing guaranteed is fast ground, so when they got some rain this morning, I thought 'here we go'.

"The owner lets us run him where we want and it was a great ride by Neil, he got to the front, pulled it up and got a breather into him, and went again."
