Fintry oozed class as she overcame a 7lb penalty and a 90-day absence to land the Atalanta Stakes at Sandown Park.

Andre Fabre's French raider (6-4 favourite) had been laid low with a cough since winning a Group Two at Chantilly on her previous start, but that did not stop her making a successful return as she warmed up for a crack at the Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket.

Fintry bounded clear under Maxime Guyon after heading the pacesetting Audacia and came home a length and a quarter clear of the staying-on Odeliz, with Water Hole third.

Guyon said: "That was very simple. She won a Group Two last time, so today she won again. When she got in front she stopped a little bit. She's a very good filly."

Lisa Jane Graffard, Godolphin's French representative, added: "Absolutely delighted. We just wanted to see the filly have a good comeback.

"She'd been off the track three months, but we knew she had the quality she showed us today so hopefully she can go for a big one at the end of the season.

"We came here because there were no suitable races in France and she was already a Group Two winner there, and the timing of this race was right.

"It has to be discussed, but I think the Sun Chariot would be the logical step."

Odeliz's trainer Karl Burke said: "She got caught in a bit of a pocket, but there are no real excuses.

"She's been beaten by a very good filly. The big aim is the EP Taylor in Canada and we might try to find her a race before then."
