IRELAND: Pearl Misses Irish Classic

Lightening Pearl will miss Sunday's Irish 1000 Guineas at the Curragh with trainer Ger Lyons planning to drop the filly in trip for her next start.

The daughter of Marju, who won last year's Cheveley Park Stakes, disappointed in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket on her seasonal debut when she finished 25 lengths behind Homecoming Queen.

Lyons tweeted: "It has been decided not to run LP in IRE 1000gns. We will wait till July at York to race her again and will drop her back in trip."

Homecoming Queen and Maybe are among seven possibles for Sunday's Irish classic for trainer Aidan O'Brien.

Also in the 14-runner field is last-time-out scorer Yellow Rosebud, G1 Phoenix Stakes winner La Collina along with the Mick Channon-trained Samitar.

Paddy Power offer 6-4 about Homecoming Queen landing the Guineas double on Sunday.

The Tattersalls Gold Cup is headed by stablemates So You Think and St Nicholas Abbey, who form a six-strong Ballydoyle assault on the Group 1 contest.

The remaining three horses entered are Famous Name, Bible Belt and Elusive Ridge.
