Entries for the feature Stobart Doncaster Cup has been re-opened after receiving nine entries with the potential field being revealed at 11.00am on Monday.
The remaining pair of Group Two contests are both for juveniles, with the opening £70,000 Polypipe Flying Childers Stakes (1.25pm) attracting 15 entries and the £70,000 Barrett Steel May Hill Stakes (3.00pm) having 11 entries.
Run over five furlongs, the Polypipe Flying Childers Stakes features the fastest two-year-olds around and a horse being targeted at the contest is the David Wachman-trained Requinto, one of three Irish-trained entries.
The son of Dansili won twice over five furlongs in Ireland, including a Listed contest at Tipperary, before taking the Group Three Molecomb Stakes, also run over at five furlongs, at Goodwood on July 26. Last time out, he was pitched in against older opposition in the Group One Nunthorpe Stakes over five furlongs at York on August 19, but was unable to get competitive and finished 13th of the 15 runners.
Wachman revealed today: “The intention is for Requinto to head to Doncaster next week for the Polypipe Flying Childers Stakes.
“I am hoping that the ground was against him in the Nunthorpe Stakes - his mother (Damson) was useless on soft going and he seems to be pretty much the same as her.
“I was very pleased with the way he travelled at York but, when we went for him, he just floundered on the ground. Hopefully, he can get his conditions at Doncaster and put that race behind him.”
Other possible starters in the Polypipe Flying Childers Stakes include the Richard Hannon-trained Lilbourne Lad, successful in the Group Two Railway Stakes at the Curragh and runner-up in the Group Two Gimcrack Stakes at York. Burwaaz was runner-up behind Requinto in the Molecomb Stakes and subsequently finished third in the Gimcrack Stakes while two fast fillies in the potential line-up are Angels Will Fall, a Group Three winner at Ascot in July, and impressive York Listed scorer My Propeller, who is owned by QPR footballer Joey Barton.
Several exciting fillies feature among the 11 entries for the £70,000 Group Two Barrett Steel May Hill Stakes (3.00pm, one mile) including Samitar, successful in the Group Three Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot for trainer Mick Channon. Regal Realm, from Jeremy Noseda's stable, also boasts winning form in Pattern company, having taken the Group Three Prestige Stakes at Goodwood last month while the John Gosden-trained Elusive Kate landed a Group Three contest in France on her latest appearance. Godolphin scooped the 2010 May Hill Stakes with White Moonstone and the Maktoum family's operation has two exciting entries this time around - the Saeed bin Suroor-trained Anjaz, a facile winner on her only start at Kempton, and Lyric Of Light, successful on her only outing so far at Newmarket last month for trainer Mahmood Al Zarooni.
The £17,500 Frank Whittle Partnership Conditions Stakes (3.35pm) was won last year by none other than Frankel, the superstar of the 2011 season and still unbeaten after eight starts. The dozen entries this year include Ektihaam, who was made an eye-catching winning debut at Newbury for first-season trainer Roger Varian.
Stobart Doncaster Cup Day also features competitive handicap action with the Ladbrokes Mallard Handicap (1.55pm, 20 entries) and the Universal Recycling Handicap (4.10pm, 29 entries). The day concludes with the Mollart Cox Classified Stakes (4.40pm, 32 entries).
