Ridden by Alan Ng, Super Guru held off the flying finish of Wonder (Chin Chee Seng) to score by a head with Iluminado (Matt Kellady) a neck away third.

Trainer Leslie Khoo said after the win he had no specific plans with Super Guru who relished the rise in distance.

Khoo said if Super Guru's form warrants then he could set the gelding for the Group 1 $500,000 Singapore Guineas over 1600m on May 18.

“If his form is up to it then I could look at running him in the last leg of the (Singapore) Three-Year-Old Challenge,” said Khoo.

“I think the first two legs might be just a bit too short for him.

“He really enjoyed the step up in distance today. He's bred to get over further so we'll just have a look to see what is available.”

Super Guru is owned by the Joy N Happiness Stable who also own Super Easy – the unbeaten three-year-old trained by Michael Freedman – which is being aimed at the Three-Year-Old Challenge.

Ng said he was forced to ride Super Guru a little further back than what was intended as the pace in the race had been quite solid.

“I wanted to be up running second but I couldn't get there,” said Ng.

“He relaxed really well running fourth and then from the 600m we made a really good run to the finish.

“He was strong all the way to line and the early pace really suited him.”

Super Guru is a three-year-old New Zealand-bred by Ishiguru from the Grosvenor mare Georgia and was a NZ$90,000 purchase as a two-year-old.

Sunday's victory was his fourth from 11 starts with a further three minor placing and he's now won around $175,000 in prizemoney for his connections.
