Wanganui duo eyeing perfect double

A trans-Tasman double is on the cards for Perfect Harmonee’s Wanganui connections when he resumes at Woodville on Thursday.

The three-year-old is a former stablemate of Start Wondering, who made an immediate impact from Chris Waller’s stable at Rosehill last Saturday with an impressive performance to score at his Australian debut.

Start Wondering had won four of his eight starts for River City trainer Paul Belsham and owner Steve Gudsell before he was sent to Sydney.

“That was a huge result and we were all very excited,” Belsham said. “I had always thought of him as a Group horse.”

Belsham and Gudsell share in the ownership of Perfect Harmonee, who will kick off a new preparation in the Rural Direct Dannevirke 1200 after showing promise last season with placings in all three appearances.

Perfect Harmonee ran consecutive thirds at Otaki and Awapuni before he finished fourth at Ellerslie in an unsuccessful bid to force his way into the Listed Karaka Million.

“I wasn’t all that disappointed that he didn’t make the field, the trip up there did him the world of good,” Belsham said.

“He’s been working well and I gave him a trip to the trials recently to help bring him on. The only question mark might be the track, but I want to get a run into him as we’re looking at the Wanganui Guineas.

“Being realistic, he needs to run in the first three at Woodville to justify a start, but I think he’s going to be pretty competitive.”
