The O’Reilly mare Amathea, the dam of the Gr.1 New Zealand Oaks winner Savaria, was bought out of the Bluegables Farm consignment by Cambridge horseman Dean Hawthorne for $250,000.

“She was purchased for a partnership between GSA Bloodstock of Melbourne and Arrowfield Stud,” he said.

“She will go to Scissor Kick in his first year at stud. The Last Tycoon blood crosses very well with Redoute’s Choice so she’s a good mare for him.”

Served in November last year by Niagara, Amathea’s mating with the Group One performer Scissor Kick is planned for 2016.

Hawthorne said they also took into account the encouraging progress being made by Amathea’s second foal, a daughter of Shamoline Warrior named Interstellar, who was secured by Te Akau for $125,000 at last year’s Ready to Run Sale.

“She’s looking promising and the early reports I have had are all good.”

The second-highest priced lot was the Onemorenomore mare Purcentage, who was offered by JK Farm and sold for $180,000 to Cambridge agent Michael Wallace on behalf of the China Horse Club.

“She’s a mare we know very well as we purchased her for Haunui Farm as a weanling,” Wallace said.

“It’s one of my favourite pedigrees and she’s a big, strong, beautiful mare. Being by the Red Ransom line offers us a few options breeding wise and we’ll send her back across the Tasman.”

Out of the Flying Spur mare Spurcent, Purcentage was originally bought for $A105,000 on the Gold Coast by Wallace before she was on-sold at Karaka in 2013 for $250,000.

Purchased by Matamata trainer Graham Richardson, she was a debut winner at two and subsequently placed at Listed level in the Ryder and Armadillo Stakes.
