Raadical Jazz a leading Avondale hope

Richard Collett has a sizeable team engaged at Avondale on Wednesday and he rates Raadical Jazz as one of his best chances on the programme.

“He’s a beautiful big, powerful horse and he’s been working well,” the Pukekohe trainer said.

Raadical Jazz has a wide draw to overcome in the Harry Skinner Memorial 1600, but with heavy conditions in play and Michael Coleman reunited with the gelding another bold run is in prospect.

Coleman rode the son of Volksraad into a third placing on the course three runs back before they combined to finish runners-up at Te Aroha.

Raadical Jazz was placed again at his most recent appearance under Michael Mitchell in a maiden highweight event.

Stablemate Queen Of Cool will debut in the NZB Insurance Pearl Series Race off the back of an 800 metre trial win at Ellerslie.

“I quite like her – she’s got lots of ability and should go well,” Collett said.

He has accepted with three runners in the Bundy Lad G2 Memsie Stakes Winner 1400, although there is a chance that Our Kismet will be reserved for next week’s Te Teko meeting.

Last-start winner Chaprise, another Coleman ride, may have a fitness edge on barn mate He’s A Bigdeel, who has had one run following a three month break.

“Chaprise is probably the best of the two,” Collett said. “She’s had three runs back and she’s been working well in the softer ground.”

He also gave a good chance to the Rosebank Business Associates 1400 contender Mills ‘N’ Boon, who has earned a cheque in each of her last three appearances.
