Offshore interests secure Boodles

An international career awaits the unbeaten Cambridge youngster Boodles.

“He’s been sold and he will do his future racing in Singapore,” Tony Pike said.

Bred and raced by his parents Wayne and Vicki, the Cambridge trainer prepared Boodles for a debut juvenile victory at New Plymouth before keeping his perfect record intact with an effortless victory at Trentham last month.

“He’s a home-bred and he is a bit on the small side, that’s why he wasn’t taken to the yearling sales,” Pike said.

Mary Quant to Oaks

Regally-bred filly Mary Quant broke maiden ranks in good style on Sunday and will be set on a course for the Gr.1 Wellfield New Zealand Oaks on March 14, a race her mother Legs won in 2006.

The Lance O'Sullivan and Andrew Scott prepared daughter of O'Reilly relished the step up to 2000m to win at her seventh start, having finished runner up on four previous occasions.

"She's a filly we thought all she wants to do is run 2000m and further and she justified that," O'Sullivan said. "It's quite encouraging going forward, with races looming over 2100m and hopefully we end up in the Oaks.

"She's run into a few smart ones in previous starts and I think at the end of a mile she has lacked that sprint, whereas today she was able to keep quickening to the line.

"We're probably leaning towards the Lowland Stakes for her next start before her main mission which is The Oaks."

Los Vargas dominant from the front

The Graham Richardson-trained Los Vargas scored a dominant victory when taking out the Tainui Press Design & Print 1200 at Matamata on Sunday.

Winning rider Danielle Johnson steered Los Vargas straight to the lead and the pair had six lengths on their nearest rival at the post.

"She sprinted really well at the top of the straight," Richardson said."It was a great ride and a really well deserved win by the horse.

"I'll have a talk to the owners as to where we head next, but there is always Ellerslie in a couple of weeks’ time and you couldn't get much more impressive than that performance."

Los Vargas has now won three of seven starts and came into the race fresh, having finished fifth in stakes company behind Tavy in the Listed Trevor Eagle Memorial back in November.

Kiwi-bred set for classics

Young Mornington trainer Paul Rocke has ambitious plans for his New Zealand-bred three-year-old Everyone’s Talking.

Following the son of Sir Percy’s recent debut success at Terang, he is talking up the gelding as a classic prospect.

“He’s by Sir Percy and we’re setting him for the Derbies,” Rocke said. “He’ll be entered for the Sydney Derby and the Adelaide Derby and he may even have a let-up somewhere and head up to Queensland for their Derby as well.”

Adelaide to George Ryder

Cox Plate winner Adelaide is likely to resume in next month’s $A1 million Gr.1 George Ryder Stakes at Rosehill ahead of The Championships.

“He’s delighting Chris Waller, firstly with his adaptation to his environment and the way of doing things here,” Coolmore’s racing manager James Bester said.

Adelaide, whose main target will be the Gr.1 $A4 million Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick on April 11, joined Waller’s stable following his Moonee Valley win for Irish trainer Aidan O’Brien.
