Shortly after Bella Nipotina’s Tiara win, stablemate wins at Caulfield
The Tattersall's Tiara quinella was the day's undisputed highlight, but Ciaron Maher's success was not limited to Eagle Farm on Saturday with Australia's leading trainer also exerting his influence at Caulfield.
Maher trained a winning double, including a victory just minutes after Bella Nipotina and Semana ran the quinella for the stable in the final Group 1 of the season.
Wyclif atoned for two luckless runs to start his campaign with victory under Celine Gaudray in the $150,000 Marshall White Quality (2000m).
"His first couple of runs we were quite pleased with, having ridden him back just to finish of his runs," Declan Maher, who deputised for his brother at Caulfield, said.
"The way that he just snuck through there was great and Celine gave him a great ride.
"This horse wet to Tassie and he's come back well again. He's done well."
The imported seven-year-old, a son of Archipenko who started $8.50, brought up career win number six when he got home by a length from Milford ($6), with leader Dashing ($5.50) the same margin away third.
It brought up a winning double at Caulfield for Maher, who earlier saw Desperado win in the $80,000 Whiskey, Wine & Fire Handicap (2000m).
The Kiwi recruit, a six-year-old son of Ghibellines, made it two wins from as many starts at Caulfield when he capitalised on an economical John Allen ride to get home by 1-1/4 lengths as a $5.50 chance.
The Caulfield wins took to 99 the number of Victorian city winners Maher has trained in a season he has celebrated 310 wins nationwide.
