Pinjarra Pony Trots celebrated their third meeting back on Monday July 8 and in another fantastic display, they got to enjoy a ripper 10 pony field.
With 11 new members registered to race on the day, the club saw three young drivers make their racing debut, with Fletcher Wheeler and Logan and Harvey Harper starting their pony trots journey.
The Wheeler family had a great weekend out at Narrogin with a training and driving double, and Fletcher kept the festivities going with a debut win on board the seasoned professional pony Im The Mighty Middy, who took out the first Pony Trot event on the day.
Fletcher, the son of harness racing favourite Trent Wheeler made his pony trots debut on Monday, and he couldn't let his dad get all the glory over the weekend, claiming an impressive win in race 1 of the pony trots.
It would have been a proud moment for parents Trent and Emily Wheeler, with both sons Oliver and Fletcher out there on the track for both races.
Oliver Wheeler finished in second placing in the first event.
The second race went the way of Brooke Strachan, a fourth generation trotting family, with her ever-consistent veteran pony Ultimate Blaze.
Strachan and 'Blaze' have won multiple cups, including the Harvey Cup three times now in what would be a relatively short career so far.
Blaze and Brooke started from the Chaff City 'handicap' in the second event and had to make up plenty of ground in the home straight, but in a nail-biting finish, came out the winner with just a nose separating first and second, seeing young Fletcher Wheeler and Im The Mighty Middy narrowly miss out on a winning double on the day.
Another generation of Harpers have hit the truck, with Logan and Harvey Harper alternating in races on their trusty steed, Lightning Joe.
Living up to his name on the day, the small but mighty Shetland chucked in a few canter strides throughout the race, but the Harper boys did their best to keep him at a speedy trot, with Logan finishing in sixth placing in the first trot and Harvey coming in third placing in the second race.
A very proud Donald and Tara Harper enjoyed watching their boys with a huge entourage on course to cheer them on, with grandparents to friends all on track to witness their debut, a brilliant display of encouragement and what the pony trots is all about.
Pinjarra Pony Trots runs outside of the usual racing season for the pint-sized racers, with South West Pony Trots primarily racing from October through to March/April, racing at Collie, Busselton and Bunbury, with the occasional meeting held at Bridgetown some seasons.
Pinjarra Pony Trots kicked off on the June Long Weekend Public Holiday, and the club announced that they will race all year round throughout the school holidays and on Monday Public Holidays when they race at Pinjarra.
The club now has a 10-week break before they race again on Monday, September 23, where it's expected that their field numbers will expand even larger.
