Makkem Lad To Go Back To Back

Progressive three-year-old Makkem Lad appears well placed to go back to back when due to contest the final event at Singapore this evening.

Only lightly raced, Makkem Lad displayed good ability as a two-year-old, finishing second on two occasions before finishing sixth in the Group 2 Golden Horseshoe [1200m].

Sent for a break, Makkem Lad returned in a big way when easily justifying his heavy support, breaking through for his maiden win in fine style.

Ridden by Vlad Duric, Makkem Lad was in control a long way out, as while forced to travel wide throughout, he took over shortly after straightening.

Somewhat under threat by Toosbies approaching the 200m, his class shone late when drawing away to score by 3.5L.

Successful in returning a new career peak, he makes the rise to Class 4 company and while at the top of the weights, he still appears very well placed.

Unlike a majority of his rivals, he looks to have more in the locker, while the rest looked to have reached their respective marks.

On paper it's not easy taking that next step, however this is not a strong Class 4 event and he is clearly trending the right way.

Trainer Donna Logan is starting to hit her straps and when combined with Duric the pair is striking at 57% (seven runners).

Duric himself is striking at 18% from his last 50 runners and although drawn wide, expect him to be positive on Makkem Lad.

Wide draws can be a hindrance, however given he does possess good early speed, Makkem Lad should be able to cross fairly comfortably.

When assessing Timeform weight adjusted ratings, he holds a decent edge over his rivals and should prove very hard to beat.

The Cliff Brown trained Lonhro Gold hasn't been far off the mark in recent efforts and looks to get his chance with the aid of the claim.

While he hasn't done a lot of winning (1/15), he has placed on a further seven occasions and has to come into contention from the good draw.

The Desmond Koh trained Reach For The Sun was clearly no match for Heliosphere last weekend, but remains under strong notice on the quick back up.

A good winner over 1200m two back, if able to return to that level of form, he has to be included in the main chances.

Of the rest the John O'Hara trained Satellite Classic appears the next in line.

His recent run of form has been better than it appears on paper and he cannot be discounted.

Good luck and happy punting.
