Daily Preview: Best Bet Ipswich – October 27

Flirtatious Femme can build on a strong first up showing off a let up at Ipswich on Thursday.

The Michael Costa-trained mare contests the Weddings, Parties, Anything Class 2 Handicap (1200m) at Ipswich.

Flirtatious Femme is currently vying for favouritism in the event with the Rob Heathcote-trained Jomar’s Element.

Strong cases can be made for each however the lean at this stage is toward Flirtatious Femme.

The mare resumed in good order, finishing second over 1200m at the Sunshine Coast last month.

She has since been kept ticking over with a 1200m Deagon trial win on October 18.

Daniel Griffin stays aboard following the trial who is developing a strong partnership with the Michael Costa stable.

The jockey boasts a strike rate of 33% with Costa having ridden seven winners from 21 rides for the emerging stable.

It should also be noted Griffin heads to Ipswich with only two rides, both for Costa with the other being Stanley in the opening event on the card.

While her latest outing was strong, the mare also showed an abundance of promise as a three-year-old.

In a small field, expect Flirtatious Femme to settle in the first three and take some holding out.

Jomar’s Element will likely be the one she has to catch with the Rob Heathcote-trained runner expected to cross and dictate from barrier 6.

The gelding was a first up winner at this course before placing here 13 days ago over 1030m.

He rates highly amongst this field on each of those showings and boasts a strong record at this course.

The fifth event at Ipswich begins to thin out following the above mentioned pair.

Hot Gossip hit the ground running for her new stable last start with the former South Australian mare winning here over 1010m.

She will strip fitter for the outing and while this looks a noticeably tougher contest, the Stratum mare still has value appeal.

Watch betting and parade rings for the resuming pair of Princess Charm and Over The Venture.

It is likely however each will be in need of this outing and a bit more ground later in their campaigns.

Flirtatious Femme shapes as the way to go in the second last event of a small six race program at Ipswich on Thursday.
