Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra saddle up an imposing dual pronged attack in the $70,000 feature event at Wangaratta on Thursday with Rough Justice and Hard Stride.

The pair are clearly two of the class runners in the field of nine with Rough Justice looking particularly tough to beat.

Rough Justice has been excellent through his latest campaign having twice won.

Close up efforts in his past two outings behind Shakesperean Lass and We’ve Got This read particularly well amongst this line up of runners.

A Set Weights plus Penalties event, Rough Justice comes in beautifully at the weights, predominantly meeting lesser gallopers on substantially better weight terms than he would under handicap conditions.

As honest as the day is long, the gelding will work across from an outside draw to be prominent and from there shapes as being hard to hold out.

The main concern for the son of Wanted is a rise to 1300m.

A winner up to 1100m, Rough Justice has placed in three of his four prior starts over 1200m, the latest when second to We’ve Got This down the Flemington Straight Six.

Rising to 1300m has the potential to stretch Rough Justice however class alone should see the four-year-old prove a cut above his rivals in Thursday’s feature event at Wangaratta.

Looking for main rivals, stick with the class horses at the top of the weights.

Kirani is mixing form however last start was strong when making all over 1205m at Sale.

The gelding is drawn to get to the front with minimal fuss from barrier 2 and will take catching although like Rough Justice, he is a query out to 1300m with his lone outing at the trip returning a well held fifth at Sandown earlier this campaign.

Written Up ran third behind Kirani at Sale last start where he was doing his best work late.

Against the gelding is the fact he now meets the winner 1kg worse at the weights despite a near two length defeat.

The last of the genuine class horses in the event is Hard Stride.

Rough Justice’s stablemate has struggled for his best this campaign however now tackles what looks the easiest assignment of his latest campaign by some way.

The gelding can be prominent throughout from barrier 1 and shapes as an excellent Plan B for the stable.

Ellerton and Zahra’s Plan A however is clearly the one they all have to beat though in the $70,000 Crownbet Vobis Gold Eldorado at Wangaratta on Thursday.
