Medcaut To Bounce Back

Talented Commands galloper Medcaut is set to bounce back to winning form at Randwick this afternoon.

The John O’Shea-trained galloper was well in commission when resuming at Rosehill over 1400m last start but shocked his supporters with what seemed to be a dismal display finishing at the rear of the field.

Subsequently O’Shea and race rider James McDonald have revealed the gelding lost his action when galloped on from behind soon after entering the straight which explains why McDonald was so quick to ease the gelding out of proceedings.

A fully recovered Medcaut tackles a similar class race this afternoon, but this time at the spacious Randwick and Timeform ratings suggest he can bounce back to winning form.

There was little doubt Medcaut was going to play a big hand in the finish first up before he suffered the injury - as he travelled smoothly into the race rounding the home turn and McDonald had not even asked him for an effort at that stage.

Medcaut has excellent collateral form around his runs when last in work and a return to those rating performances would pit him right in the mix.

The consistent Gamblestown rates as the hardest to beat striking a purple patch at the right time.

Since being transferred to Joe Pride after the passing of Guy Walter, Gamblestown took a few runs to hit form but he has now won three of his last four runs and returned a new personal best winning in similar class last time out and with something in hand.

Gamblestown has found a new lease of life under Pride and there is no reason why he cannot continue that form here.

The handy Zin Zan Eddie is another working up to a win. The lightly raced gelding has raced just 20 times for four wins, however his two runs back both been good, improving his rating each time.

Zin Zan Eddie is still four or five pounds shy of his best ratings but interestingly last campaign his third up run was a higher rating effort than either of his first two runs. If he performs similarly today he will not be far from the money.

Wine Tales has the highest older ratings in the race but her recent form has been consistently below that level.

Enjoy the race..
