Monday’s Goulburn meeting is shaping as a happy hunting ground for favourites punters.
The seven race program is comprised largely of small fields and as of Monday morning, offers five favourites around the even money quote.
Of these five, some boast more watertight cases than others.
We’re hopeful however of building a bank early in Race 2, the Frank’s Financial Services Maiden Plate (1200m) with Hexagonal.
The daughter of Shamardal has admittedly proved costly for followers this campaign, rolled as favourite in two of her three starts this preparation.
After a narrow defeat on resuming at this course, the filly then placed at Gosford over this trip.
She then contested a 1200m Maiden at Warwick Farm where she was a luckless fifth.
Caught wide with no cover, the filly battled on bravely under the circumstances.
19 days later, the filly contests the easiest assignment of her career where she rates well clear of her nearest rivals on latest figures.
She almost breaks maiden status at Gosford on Monday by default based on the underwhelming form her rivals possess.
For her to be challenged on latest figures, her ‘rivals’ will need to be producing a career best effort by a substantial way.
Jockey Kathy O’Hara has a strong book of rides with her best arguably coming in Race 7 with Doubos.
The filly was excellent when resuming at this course over 1300m, making good late ground for a closing fourth.
Doubos will strip fitter second up and should appreciate the rise to 1400m in the Doyles On The Beach Benchmark 55 Handicap.
While there are only three scratchings, Doubos looks the clear top pick in the event after scratchings of Ateaces and Bella Mist.
In a field filled with largely exposed types, Doubos is a progressive sort with upside.
She should take another step up through the grades in the last at Goulburn on Monday.
