They’ll Be Chasing Charlie At Wagga

Chasing Charlie can build upon a solid first up win in the Stan Sadleir Stakes at Wagga on Thursday.

The Barbara Joseph and Paul Jones-trained gelding was a first up winner at Albury over 1175m.

The Myboycharlie gelding made all in the event and while he fell in, would have taken plenty of benefit from the outing.

With added fitness second up, Chasing Charlie can keep on winning in the Stan Sadleir Stakes (1200m) at Wagga on Thursday.

Chasing Charlie lines up in a field of nine runners, two of which in Back To The Bar and Miss Bemuse placed behind the gelding at Albury last start.

Both meet Chasing Charlie better at the weights however all signs point to the four-year-old being open to improvement still early in his campaign.

From an inside barrier, expect Chasing Charlie to take up his customary frontrunning position.

There appears to be a fair bit of early speed in the event and if the gelding is hassled up front, it could be his undoing.

If able to pinch a cheap sectional mid-race though, Chasing Charlie could take some catching.

Bay Of Biscay shapes as a main danger on his best form this campaign.

While the Hemingway gelding was safely accounted for last start, his prior two efforts at Seymour and Bendigo would have him fighting out the finish.

The addition of Blake Shinn boosts his chances and the gelding should be closing well off a solid tempo at the finish.

Miss Bemuse as discussed placed behind Chasing Charlie at Albury last start.

The mare meets the winner 1.5kg better at the weights for just a slender defeat.

While that is a favourable weight swing, Chasing Charlie is expected to improve off his first up showing while Miss Bemuse is well into her prep even considering her freshen up two starts ago.

For those who supported Chasing Charlie at Albury, stick with him. Everyone else should jump on in the Stan Sadleir Stakes (1200m) at Wagga on Thursday.
