Oh My Papa After Tamworth Cup Tune Up

Oh My Papa looks poised to tune up nicely for the Tamworth Cup with a win in the Prelude over 1400m this afternoon.

The six-year-old Greg Bennett mare has been in very solid form so far this campaign, and comes into this off a deserved win at Newcastle 27 days back over 1300m.

That run produced a weight-adjusted Timeform figure of 91, and it looked like she had a bit left in the tank as she ran through the line.

She’s been kept nice and fresh for this too, avoiding the bog tracks the rain has been throwing up over the last couple of weeks.

Fourth-up here she can improve off that Newcastle win and stake a strong claim for the Tamworth Cup.

Oh My Papa has drawn awkwardly in gate 11, but she’ll likely go back from the wide alley which suits her usual racing pattern.

I’d expect she’ll be finishing the best of this lot, especially out to 1400m.

Double Halo looks next best in this on his favourite track.

The Luke Griffith-trained six-year-old has been in very solid form of late and finds an easier looking assignment here at his favourite track.

He comes into the race after lunging and missing over 1300m in open grade at Dubbo 16 days back on a slow track, producing a weight-adjusted figure of 88.

That followed his gallant effort in the Group 3 Newcastle Newmarket (1400m) the run prior where he was beaten 3.4L behind the winner Mecir, running to a weight-adjusted figure of 99.

Double Halo has won three of five starts at this track and possesses a super consistent record over this journey.

Greg Ryan also usually performs aboard this galloper, having won four time and placed eight more in 16 starts on this horse.

He should run another sound race today.

Watch for the Paul Messara-trained Knot Out to run a big race here.

He’s dropping back from metropolitan grade where he was beaten five lengths at Randwick 20 days ago, producing a weight-adjusted figure of 80.

Prior to that he finished within three lengths at Wyong over 1350m and earned a weight-adjusted figure of 90.

He has a good record at this trip and those numbers would put him right around the mark again here.

Messara has put the blinkers back on again today too which is an interesting move.

I’d be keeping him very safe.
