Gravitational can record his first career win before aiming toward tougher races this spring when contesting the Seymour Insurance and Financial Services Maiden Plate (1617m) at Seymour on Thursday.
The Danny O’Brien-trained colt resumed at Geelong last start where he performed well enough in what overall was an unsuitable race for the colt.
Settling last, Gravitational made up good ground late but couldn’t reel in another smart three-year-old resuming, I Am Titanium.
Form out of the race is expected to continually hold up and has already been franked with Quest For Peace since dominating at Mornington.
She was the first horse beaten at Gravitational’s last start so connections should feel confident about their colts chances at Seymour on Thursday.
Gravitational’s first up effort yielded a Timeform figure of 88.
The run came in 13 pounds below the Astronomer Royal colts master Timeform rating from the Sires’ Produce Stakes.
It suggests there is scope for improvement and that should be showcased second up as Gravitational rises to a mile.
An inside barrier and the addition of Craig Williams are other positives heading into Thursday’s sixth maiden event on Seymour’s ten race program.
Gravitational has shown his versatility during a short four start career to date.
He has held his own during races between 1200m up to a mile and has found the line well whether being ridden aggressively or further back.
Gravitational stands out as one of a few winning hopes in a race lacing depth so expect Williams to be relatively positive from the nice barrier.
The Sean Buckley-raced colt does look the class runner in this contest and appears very well suited under set weight conditions.
He certainly ticks all of the right boxes heading into this contest and should take beating.
Mossimo also rises in trip after a sound Australian debut at Sandown.
The Andrew Campbell-trained galloper is a travelling partner for boom kiwi colt Cauthen.
Stakes placed in New Zealand and possessing a master Timeform rating of 84, Mossimo shapes as another improver.
Looking for a likely winner outside of these pair is tough but getting out to a mile, perhaps Makybe Diva’s half brother Rodway can build upon an underwhelming debut at Sale.
The Street Cry colt was beaten for speed when the tempo started to quicken on that occasion.
He should have at least taken race experience and fitness from the outing though and profiles as the value hope.
Overall however, Thursday’s Seymour Insurance and Financial Services Maiden Plate should merely be a stepping stone for Gravitational on his way towards bigger and better things.
