Mario Caltabiano filly Wayward Snip looks ready to collect a hat-trick of wins in this afternoon’s Cessnock Supporters Club Benchmark 55 Handicap (1150m) at Cessnock.
The daughter of Snippetson has more upside than the rest of this lot and looks destined for much stronger races than this as she progresses this campaign.
She resumed with a win in a Bathurst maiden last month running to a Timeform figure of 63, then took another big stride in performance when winning a Class 1 Handicap at the same track by three lengths.
On that occasion she ran to 67, and hinted there was still plenty more to find as she advances this preparation.
Wayward Snip has led all the way in orchestrating both victories, and most crucially they’ve come on heavy tracks which she finds again today.
She’s untried at this Cessnock track but it’s not too far from her base at Warwick Farm, and the travel shouldn’t be too much of an issue.
Expect this talented three-year-old to notch up an impressive hat-trick this afternoon.
Three others gallopers look capable of taking it to Wayward Snip if they produce their best.
Bikini won a maiden in slow going on debut at Muswellbrook last month running to a weight-adjusted Timeform figure of 69.
She was however unable to back that up in Class 1 grade at Newcastle last start where she was beaten 6.3L.
Clearly she must get back to that debut form, but if she does she can certainly run a bold race.
Seven-year-old gelding Afairgo has been up for a while this campaign and always must be respected in Benchmark 55 company.
He certainly has an experience edge on his younger rivals today and he won a similar race here three starts back running to a weight-adjusted Timeform figure of 70.
His last two runs have been slightly below par, but he has performed in the wet before and should be there when the whips are cracking.
The last one worth considering is Don’tstopthemusic.
She’s a four-year-old Econsul mare who doesn’t mind the wet herself.
Fourth-up today she should be close to her peak, and a last-start second at Taree where she ran to a weight-adjusted Timeform figure of 69 reads well for this.
She’s placed here before and is trained on track so don’t be surprised if she runs well.
