Draw Won't Stop Discreet

Promising filly Discreet can overcome a wide gate to take out today's $150,000 rich CFMEU Mining & Enery QTIS 600 Plate (race 7) on a huge card at Ipswich.

The 10 race card has been carved up by scratching but the rich two-year-old feature remains relatively unscathed with a capacity field of 14.

Discreet, prepared by Kelly Schweida on the Gold Coast, will jump from barrier 11 today after the emergencies come out but the talented filly should be hard to hold out on her form to date.

A $50,000 Magic Millions yearling, Discreet made her debut at Eagle Farm on heavy ground where she settled second last before hooking to the outside around the bend and running on strongly to finish runner up behind Snipzu.

She returned there next start for the Listed Calaway Gal Stakes, this time on top of the ground, where she was slow to begin but mustered speed to race up to fourth on the inside.

She looked to be in a little trouble obtaining clear running for the early part of the straight but eventually got a split and burst through, running on and away to score an impressive 3.5 length win.

That was her career bets figure to date and a clear bets of this line up she meets today.

A fortnight later, Discreet tackled the Group 3 B.J. McLachlan Stakes at Doomben where she drew awkwardly but managed to find a spot midfield on the outside.

Jockey Jim Byrne made his move before the bend and circled wider to get to sixth as the field straightened but she couldn't sustain the run, swamped late as she faded to sixth behind the smart Driefontein.

Next start was a fortnight later in the rich Magic Millions Classic on her home track.

Again drawing awkwardly, the filly was hampered at the start and was immediately shuffled back to second last in the big field.

Turning 13th, she peeled to the centre of the track for the run home but had too much to do, making good ground into eighth but the race was over, won again by Driefontein.

Schweida gave the filly a spell and she resumes in this much easier grade without a trial.

Yet again she has drawn awkwardly but looks clearly the class runner and should be hard to beat here.

Over the shorter journey she will no doubt drift back but will be hard to hold out in the straight.

Consistent filly Optionally has also drawn wide but has to be included in the chances.

The filly, prepared by Ted Harden on the Sunshine Coast, placed at her first two starts before breaking through in town over 1020m at Doomben.

There she took up the running from a wide gate and kicked clear in the straight, scoring a two length win.

Since then, she has tried to lead throughout and finished runner up at Eagle Farm, third there next time, running at Doomben then third there last start before a spell.

She's a no nonsense filly who will roll forward here and take catching again.

Toowoomba filly Never Despair who a strong winner last time and should be further improved.

The filly was very green at home on debut and finished sixth but improved last start at Eagle Farm on heavy ground when coming from worse than midfield to score by three-quarters of a length.

She has fitness in her favour today but should also improve further and with a good run form barrier two should have something to finish with in the straight.

Another Toowoomba galloper Bullet One should run well on his honest record to date, while Heza Jetsetter, who has been slow to begin at both runs so far, should be in the mix if he can get away cleanly.
