Quichang Quichang

Honest local Quichang should give a bold sight in his home town Cup today at Moruya.

The Luke Pepper trained gelding takes on the Mitre 10 Moruya Cup and gets the chance to score his first win at the 1930m journey.

The seven-year-old may be taken on in the betting today having never won at the trip in around five goes at 1900m to 2000m.

But despite not having tasted success he has run some excellent races and boasts figures good enough for this race.

His efforts include a fourth and a sixth in town on wet tracks in tougher grade, a fifth in the Queanbeyan Cup where he bombed the start, a narrow second at Queanbeyan and a close up fifth at the same track.

Quichang is racing well this campaign, kicking off with a half length second at Canberra over 1400m before finishing fourth in the Adaminaby Cup over the same journey.

He then ran third in the Wagga Cup with a month between runs where he raced just off the leaders and battled on well to finish 2.5 lengths from Lockmar.

Last start was the Narooma Cup over 1650m here and he fought on strongly to score a three quarter length win over Micalong.

He meets that galloper no worse at the weights today and will be fitter for the four runs from a spell.

On his record at the trip he might get taken on in the better but in this form on his home track he won't get a better chance to break through at the journey.

The Norm Gardner trained Coliseo is a progressive galloper who can take the next step today with a big run.

The gelding, who has raced just 15 times for four wins and six minors, is in top form this campaign.

He began with a 1400m win at Goulburn then ran on well when a fats finishing two length fifth over a mile there next time out.

Again at a mile but in the Bega Cup Prelude at Sapphire Coast he changed home from second last and just missed when a nose second.

Last start, up to 2000m at Kembla Grange, he drew wide and sat back in the field but again motored home, this time proving too strong with a three quarter length win.

The trip suits ideally today and although taking on more seasoned horses drops to the minimum weight.

He's a horse on the up and looks hard to hold out again.

Runner up behind Quichang last time, Micalong, should be further improved for this race.

Although meeting the winner no better at the weights this time, Micalong ran a much improved race to finish runner up when third up form a spell and is far better suited at this longer journey.

He has two 2000m wins to his name already and is expected to go close.

The John Marzol trained Code Word could be the big improver in the race.

The talented galloper has been getting fitter in his four runs this time in and although was well held when ninth behind Quichang last time is much better suited at this journey.

The gelding is a two time city winner over 1900m and 2000m and should be ready to show his best.
