It was the second elite victory in a week in Perth for the former Widden Stud stallion after he sired the Winterbottom Stakes winner Takedown at Ascot on November 26.

Stratum, a Golden Slipper winning son of Redoute’s Choice, died from a heart-attack at Widden Stud in NSW in September.

Has left five G1 winners to date with his progeny earnings over $46 million. His other G1 winners have been Golden Slipper winner Crystal Lily, Streama and Southern Lord.

A previous G1 winner of the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes in Melbourne, Stratum Star was sold as a yearling by Widden for $165,000 at the Gold Coast Magic Millions by the now retired trainer Rick Hore-Lacy.

Hore-Lacy prepared Stratum Star early in his career with Widden Stud retaining a share in his big syndicate of owners. He was late transferred to Darren Weir with Saturday’s win sending his earnings soaring past $1.65 million.

He was the seventh G1 winner of the year for Weir, who has now won G1 races in all major cities in Australia except Sydney.

Stratum Star had not been successful in 12 starts since he won the G3 David Jones Cup at Caulfield in 2015.

On Saturday the five-year-old beat Railway Stakes winner Scales Of Justice by a nose with last year’s Kingston Town Classic winner Perfect Reflection third.

Following the race stewards charged champion Hong Kong Jockey Douglas Whyte’s with not riding his mount Scales Of Justice out to the finish.

Stratum Star (Stratum x Purely Spectacular by Pins) has now raced 33 times for six wins, seven seconds, eight thirds and prize money of $1,652,460.

Stratum Star is out of the placed mare Purely Spectacular (Pins), also the dam of the stakes-placed winner Serenade (Star Witness).

Stratum Star’s third dam is the dual winner Vanilla Sky (O’Reilly) who has produced four winners from five foals to race including the Listed winner and G1-placed Raid (Pins).

Purely Spectacular missed to Redoute’s Choice last season after foaling a filly by Stratum. She also has a 2YO by Star Witness.

Progeny by sons of Redoute’s Choice won all three G1 races at the Ascot carnival.

Stratum was responsible for Takedown (Winterbottom Stakes) and Stratum Star (Kingston Town Classic) and Not A Single Doubt is the sire of the Railway Stakes winner Scales Of Justice.

Scales Of Justice defeated the 2015 Railway Stakes winner Good Project, also by Not A Single Doubt.
