Rubick, an impeccably bred unraced youngster by Encosta De Lago, has burst into the spotlight for the major two-year-old races with a sizzling barrier trial win at Rosehill on Tuesday.
Trainer Gerald Ryan was urged to rate Rubick as potentially the best youngster to come under his care since Snitzel after he won his heat over 900m by seven lengths in the fastest time of the morning.
The colt wil debut at Randwick on January 25 and then Ryan plans to send him to Melbourne for the Blue Diamond Prelude followed by the $1 million Blue Diamond.
Rubick is out the G3 winner Sliding Cube, a Rock Of Gibraltar half sister to Redoute’s Choice (Danehill), Platinum Scissors (Danehill) and Manhattan Rain (Encosta De Lago), won by seven lengths in the fastest time of the morning.
“He just lobbed along and cruised up and accelerated in the straight, “ Ryan said.
“It was very pleasing to see him take what I had seen him do on the track to the trial. He will run at Randwick on the 25th then go to Melbourne.”
