Oaks Triumph For Waikato Stud

Saturday's Group One Queensland Oaks at Eagle Farm was a triumph for New Zealand's Waikato Stud with the nursery responsible for three of the first four placegetters including the winner Quintessential.

Quintessential, a daughter of Waikato Stud's young sire Fast N Famous, beat Eliza Blues, a daughter of the stud's award winning champion sire O'Reilly.

Dowager Queen, a daughter of another Waikato Stud resident Savabeel, finished fourth.

The Nearco Stud-owned Quintessential, trained by John Sargent, had been placed in the G1 NZ Oaks in March and was fourth in the G3 Doomben Roses in her lead up to the Queenland Oaks.

Purchased by agent Adrian Clark for $70,000 at the 2010 Karaka Select Yearling Sale, Quintessential has won three other races in NZ including the G3 Desert Gold Stakes.

She is the second Queensland Oaks winner bred in NZ by the Taylor family's Trelawney Stud, joining the Zabeel filly Vouvray (2000).

Quintessental is the third winner bred from the imported Sword Dance mare Florette, an unraced three-quarter sister to the American stakes winners Magical Madness and Touched By Madness.

Quintessential is the first G1 winner in the oldest crop by the Redoute's Choice stallion Fast N Famous.

A brilliant sprinter, Fast N Famous won six races in succession including the G3 VRC Gilgai Stakes at Flemington and was a close second in the G1 AJC Galaxy at Randwick.

With his oldest only three he has been represented by over 20 individual winners.

While he was a renowned sprinter, Fast N Famous imbues stamina in his progeny through his dam Zalinda, a daughter of Zabeel from the high class performer Alynda.

Oaks second Eliza Blues (O'Reilly x Censibelle by Centaine) is a sister to G3 winner Old Belvedere while Dowager Queen (Savabeel x Dower by Pins) was racing for her sire's breeder Gerry Harvey for the first time after he purchased the multiple stakes winner for $710,000 at the Magic Millions Broodmare Sale on the Gold Coast last Tuesday.
