The Dundeel gelding is now a two-time G1 winner after storming home from near last for a brilliant victory in last Saturday’s G1 Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes.

The two-time Karaka graduate won the G1 Sistema Stakes three weeks ago after placing in the Karaka Million 2YO Classic at Ellerslie. He is the first 2YO since 2011 to win the G1 Sistema Stakes-Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes double.

The result continued Te Akau’s recent domination of the Manawatu Sires’ Produce, having won in 2017 with Melody Belle (Commands) and last year with recent Sydney Group winner Avantage (Fastnet Rock).

Yourdeel has now had six starts for four wins, two placings and $NZ375,600 in stakes – almost four times his purchase price.

Trainer Jamie Richards highlighted that gelding Yourdeel had been the key to his success.

“He’s taken a fair bit of making,” he said. “He was very colty in the spring and started to overdo it,” Richards said.

Yourdeel will now be spelled and not return until next season.

A new standout performer for breeder and vendor Dan Myers, he was purchased from his 2017 weanling draft at the Karaka May Sale by Little Avondale Stud for $30,000.

Returning to the Karaka sale ring as a yearling, co-owner Chris Rutten then purchased him from the 2018 Premier Sale Book 1 for $NZ100,000.

Yourdeel is the second G1 winner by Arrowfield Stud resident Dundeel and is one of three winners out of the winning Red Ransom mare Miss Zapper.

Yourdeel’s second dam Volted (Rory’s Jester) is a half-sister to Anamato (Redoute’s Choice), winner of the G1 Australasian Oaks, and has produced the Irish Listed winner Anamba (Shamardal).

The family also includes noted G1 winners Drum (Marauding), Grand Armee (Hennessy) and Dealer Principal (Flying Spur).

Dundeel’s oldest progeny are only 3YOs and include seven stakes winners including South African G1 winner Atyaab.

Karaka graduates also dominated the finish of Saturday’s G3 Manawatu Classic (2000m) at Awapuni, headed by the blue-blooded Savabeel colt The Chosen One.

From an iconic South Island family, being a grandson of the dual G1 winner The Jewel (O’Reilly), The Chosen One was passed at the 2017 NZB Premier Sale at Karaka with a $150,000 reserve.

Retained by his breeders the Dennis brothers, in partnership with a large group of owners, The Chosen One (Savabeel x The Glitzy One) scored his second stakes win in Saturday’s three-year-old feature.

The runner-up Spring Delight (Tavistock) was a $400,000 purchase at the 2017 Premier Sale while the $90,000 weanling purchase Blue On Black (Camelot) was third.

The Chosen One has now had nine starts for three wins, two placings and $112,500 in prize-money. He made a huge impression in the spring, winning his first two starts including the Listed Zacinto Stakes (1600m) at Riccarton.

Trainers Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman will now consider a shot at Saturday’s $2 million ATC Australian Derby (2400m) at Randwick.
