A last-start maiden winner at Hastings, the Mike Moroney and Pam Gerard-trained filly made the big step up in class with ease despite her long odds.

Bought for $28,000 by Paul Moroney Bloodstock at the 2017 Karaka Select Sale, Pinmedown (Pins x Alleyway by Oregon) has now won two of her four starts and $66,750 in prize-money for owners Savvy Racing Blues Syndicate and a big list of partners.

The 79th stakes winner for the late Pins, the son of Snippets who stood at Waikato Stud, PInmedown defeated House Of Cartier (Alamosa) by a long neck with G3 Eulogy Stakes winner Queen Of Diamonds third.

Pinmedown, bred and sold by Ardsley Stud, is a three-quarter sister to Ambitious Dragon (Pins) who won 13 races in Hong Kong including the HK International Mile, HK Classic Cup, HK Derby and QE II Cup.

He earned more than HK$111 million and was a two-time Hong Kong Horse of the Year.

Pinmedown earned eight NZ Filly of the Year Series points for her Eight Carat Classic win moving her to equal second behind Media Sensation, who remains on top of the ladder with 12 points despite finishing out of the placings in the Eight Carat Classic.

Graduates of the 2017 Karaka Select Sale dominated the inaugural running of the Listed Uncle Remus Stakes at Ellerslie on Boxing Day.

Ocean Park filly Pretty To sea, a recent acquisition from Australia, gave her new connections an immediate return when an easy winner at Ellerslie on Boxing Day.

Now prepared by Stephen Marsh for Cambridge Stud’s Brendan and Jo Lindsay, Pretty To Sea was G3 placed in Sydney in the Adrian Knox Stakes for trainer Ciaron Maher but was later sold to the NZ breeders.

She is the first horse Marsh has trained for the Lindsdays and has returned to NZ after initially being sold as a yearling at Karaka for $NZ150,000.

“It’s great, Brendan and Jo buying Cambridge Stud and investing so much in the industry, so it is lovely to get a result for them,” Marsh said.

Marsh is keen to add further black-type to the four-year-old’s record before she joins the Cambridge Stud broodmare band.

Pretty To Sea hails from the family of G1 winners Glamour Puss (Tale Of The Cat) and Vision And Power (Carnegie).

Westbury Stud stallion Reliable Man sired his sixth stakes winner at Ellerslie on Boxing Day when the promising 3YO Hypnos beat Dawn Patrol (Dawn Appoach).

Trained by Roger James and Robert Wellwood, Hypnos (Reliable Man x Quality Dream by Elusive Quality) was bought for $NZ50,000 at the 2017 Karaka Select Sale. The G1 placed Dawn Patrol cost $20,000 at the same sale.

Hynos’ owners Ron and Fran Dixon have been long term clients of the James stable, having owned the NZ Derby winner Hades and other stakes winners.

“They were my first ever owners and the first people I ever bought a yearling for, and that is a long time ago,” James said.

“We’ve had a lot of good times together and I think we can have more with this horse.”

Hypnos has now had six starts for two wins, three placings and $55,900 in prize-money.

Westbury Stud will offer a full-brother to Hypnos in Book 2 of Karaka 2019.

Karaka Premier Sale graduate Indecision won the Listed Hallmark Stud Handicap at Ellerslie on Boxing Day for the third black type win of her career.

The 5YO carried a hefty 60kg, some 4kg more than any other runner on a Heavy 10 track, as she led home a trifecta for her sire Per Incanto.

Indecision was a $220,000 purchase by Bruce Perry Bloodstock at the 2015 Premier Sale and has now had 22 starts for six wins, six placings and $152,525 in stakes.

This was her third black type win following her victories in the Listed NZB Finance Sprint in April and Listed Legacy Lodge Sprint at Te Rapa last month.

Little Avondale Stud stallion Per Incanto was also represented by runner-up Santa Monica and third placed Rocanto.

Per Incanto has 41 yearlings catalogued for Karaka 2019, with 18 in Book 1, 21 in Book 2 and two in Book 3.

Boots ‘N’ All, passed as a yearling at the 2014 South Island Sale, took his stakes earnings to almost $NZ250,000 with an impressive victory in Friday’s Listed Timaru Cup.

Breeders Bruce Sheat and Cheryl Wilson offered Boots ’N’ All at the 2014 South Island Sale with a $5000 reserve but he was passed in.

Trained for the pair by Lance Robinson, he has since won the Listed Timaru Stakes at Riccarton has placed in the last two editions of the G2 Coupland’s Bakeries Mile (1600m).

Boots ‘N’ All’ (Perfectly Ready x Steel Stilettos) had finished second in last year’s Timaru Cup but he went one better this time under 59.5kg.

He has now had 38 starts for nine wins, 12 placings and $248,290 in prizemoney.
