Ferlax will join the Karaka operation’s stallion roster this season at an introductory fee of $7000 + GST.

Studmaster Mark Chitty said the G1 Australian Guineas winner provided the perfect outcross for the Australasian broodmare pool being completely free of Danehill and Sir Tristram blood.

Ferlax won his first three starts and then bridged the gap to the top level when he triumphed in the Australian Guineas.

“Any horse that can win his first four starts, culminating in a Group One win, is a serious racehorse, especially when the Group One race is the Australian Guineas," Chitty said.

“When you consider the list of past winners of the Australian Guineas and see the names of champion sires Zabeel, Flying Spur and Pins, you realise that Ferlax has excellent credentials and prospects for stallion success.”

As a four-year-old, he graduated to top weight-for-age company and finished runner-up in the G1 Memsie Stakes behind the champion mare Atlantic Jewel and beat home G1 winners It's A Dundeel, Green Moon, Fiorente, Happy Trails and Silent Achiever.

Ferlax was purchased at Karaka in 2011 for $180,000 by Dean Hawthorne on behalf of leading owner and breeder Jonathan Munz.

Pentire has sired 42 stakes winners, including 12 individual G1 winners and seven in Australia.

Ferlax’s dam Legs Akimbo is by the Golden Slipper winner Marscay.

Ferlax will stand at Haunui Farm with Iffraaj and Showcasing.
