A former professional rugby player with the Waikato Chiefs and Clermont in France, Davison took charge of the Matamata stud with the intention of securing a resident stallion for the farm.

"Mapperley has been a boutique agistment farm and it’s been on my mind for a while to go to the next level. I’ve been on the look-out for the right horse for a fair while,” Davison said.

He has secured He’s Remarkable in a joint venture with Waikato Stud.

“He ticks all the boxes as a beautifully-bred horse who was Group One placed at three, four and five in New Zealand and Australia.

“He was the Group 3 winner of the Newcastle Newmarket Handicap, third in the Group 2 Crystal Mile at Moonee Valley and then of course won and was relegated in the Group 1 Railway Stakes in Perth.”

He’s Remarkable won six of his 22 starts for trainer Roger James and was narrowly beaten in the G1 NZ 2000 Guineas by Jimmy Choux at three and was later placed in the G1 Spring Classic at Hastings.

A $NZ360,000 Karaka yearling, He’s Remarkable is out of the Zabeel mare Axiom and his grand-dam Arletty was a dual G2 winner.

The pedigree features Legs, who won the G1 NZ Oaks and G1 Kelt Capital Stakes.

He’s Remarkable will stand his first season at Mapperley Stud at NZ$4000 + GST.
