The stars of the 2018 Singapore racing season were honoured at the Racing Appreciation Night on January 21 with Karaka graduates claiming three titles.
After another top class season the 2016 Horse of the Year Debt Collector (Thorn Park) was honoured with the prestigious Champion Miler and Champion Older Horse awards.
Trained by Cliff Brown for the Barree Stable, Debt Collector had three starts during 2018.
After a first-up second in the Jumbo Jet Trophy he recorded brilliant back-to-back wins in the Raffles Cup and Queen Elizabeth II Cup.Debt Collector was bred by Windsor Park Stud, who offered him at the Select Sale. He was secured by Michael Wallace, then returned to the Ready to Run Sale in the draft of Prima Park and was purchased by Cliff Brown Racing.
The Champion 3YO award went to Mr Clint (Power) who was purchased for $52,500 at the 2016 Karaka Select Sale and then made $95,000 at the NZB Ready to Run Sale.Owned by the Oscar Racing Stable and trained by Lee Freedman, Mr Clint has won four of his 11 starts and S$899,598 in stakes – more than 10 times his purchase price.
The highlight of Mr Clint’s 2018 season came when he scored an emphatic victory in the Singapore Guineas. He was also placed against older horses in the Singapore Gold Cup.Mr Clint was bred by Sir Patrick and Lady Hogan, the former owners of Cambridge Stud.
He went through the Cambridge Stud draft at the Select Sale where he was secured by Stuart Hale, then went through Riversley Park’s draft at the Ready to Run Sale and was purchased by Laurie Laxon.
