Royal Ascot - Day 2 Success For Mastercraftsman

NZ-based shuttle sire Mastercraftsman continued his excellent run of black type success at Royal Ascot on Wednesday.

Mastercraftsman's daughter Amazing Maria was successful in the G2 Duke Of Cambridge Stakes while his son The Grey Gatsby finished second in the G1 feature Prince of Wales's Stakes.

Amazing Maria (Mastercraftsman x Messias Da Silva by Tale Of The Cat) came from last position to defeat her opponents by two lengths while The Grey Gatsby enjoyed the firm ground when finishing hard to be beaten only a short head by Free Eagle.

Mastercraftsman shuttles to New Zealand’s Windsor Park Stud where he is proving to be an able replacement for the stud’s former shuttler, the deceased High Chaparral, sire of Free Eagle.

Mastercraftsman’s fourth Southern Hemisphere crop are now foals. He has sired 12 SH first-crop stakes horses to date including G2 Wakeful Stakes winner and G1 VRC Oaks second Thunder Lady and Group winning fillies Thee Auld Floozie and Choice and Upham and Master Of Arts, first and third in the recent G Grand Prix Stakes in Brisbane.

Amazing Maria, a homebred for her owner Sir Robert Ogden, has now won three of her 10 career starts.

She is the sole winner to race out of the winning mare Messias De Silva, a daughter Indy Power (AP Indy), a half sister to the stakes winners One More Power and Dixie

Power.

A G3 winner in 2013 as a two-year-old, Amazing Maria failed to land a blow as a three-year-old. The Duke Of Cambridge Stakes was her third start this season after David O’Meara took over her training at the start of the year.

• DUTCH Art three-year-old Dutch Connection bounced back from a 2000 Guineas defeat to land the G3 Jersey Stakes for trainer Charles Hills.

Dutch Connection (Dutch Art x Endless Love by Dubai Destination) finished seventh to Gleneagles in the 2000 Guineas over the mile at Newmarket and appreciated the drop back to 7 furtongs to beat Fahayyil, trained by the winning trainer’s father Barry Hills.

Ivawood (Zebedee), third in both the 2000 Guineas and Irish 2000 Guineas, faded to finish 14th as favourite.

“This is his optimum trip but we’ll see if he gets stronger as he gets older. He’s in the July Cup but we could have a look at the Sussex Stakes over a mile at Goodwood,” Hills said.

He is among 18 stakes winners by Cheveley Park Stud sire Dutch Art and has now won three of his seven career starts including last year’s G3 Acomb Stakes at York.

Cheveley Park Stud purchased a half share in Dutch Connection earlier this year.

Dutch Connection is his sire's fifth stakes winner this year of 2015. Dutch Art’s progeny are led by Slade Power, winner of the G1 Darley July Cup and G1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes.

Dutch Connection is a brother to stakes placed Dutch Romance from the unraced Dubai Destination mare Endless Love, a half-sister to the Listed-placed Wittgenstein.

Their dam Coolrain Lady is a half-sister to the dual Listed winner Bella Tusa.

OSAILA, a Danehill Dancer half-sister to one of Australia’s highest priced yearlings this year, won the Listed Sandringham Handicap at Royal Ascot.

BBA Ireland paid $1.3 million for the Fastnet Rock half-sister to Osaila at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale in April.

Osaila became jockey Frankie Dettori’s 50th Royal Ascot winner. She had finished seventh in the G1 1000 Guineas at Newmarket at her previous start.
