His 4YO daughter Silent Sedition won the G3 Summoned Stakes at Sandown on November 12 while his 3YO gelding Variation took out the G2 WA Guineas at Ascot last Saturday.

War Chant was high among the best racing sons of the great stallion Danzig, winning five of his seven starts including his only outing at two and the G1 Breeders’ Cup Mile, G2 Santa Anita Oak Tree Mile and G2 Santa Anita San Raphael Stakes.

He also finished second in the G1 Santa Anita Derby and mid field in the Kentucky Derby.

One of four stakes winners from Hollywood Wild Cat, a Kris S champion filly who won the G1 Breeders’ Cup Distaff, War Chant started his stud careere at Three Chimneys in Kentucky in 2001.

So far he has supplied over 400 winners (34 SWs, 15 GWs) in the US of over $50 million.

His leading performers have included Midnight Interlude (Santa Anita Derby), Kingsfort (Curragh National Stakes), Chamberlain Bridge (19 wins, Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint), G2 winners Brilliant and War Kill and G3 winner and G1 placed Karen’s Caper.

War Chant began the second phase of his stud career when he began shuttling to Yarrandale Stud in WA in 2011.

After three shuttle seasons Yarrandale principal Ron Sayers purchased the stallion to become a permanent resident.

War Chant has sired some 250 foals in his time in WA.

Besides Variation and Silent Sedition they include Chantski (10 starts, four wins at two including Listed WATC Gimcrack Stakes), Dainty Tess (11 starts, five wins, four seconds), I Am Boudica (six starts, two wins and third G3 WATC Champion Stakes) and War God (four wins).

The Yarrandale roster boasts a mix of seven high class lo and imported stallions. War Chant stands with City Place (Storm Cat), Gingerbread Man (Shamardal), Heritage (Flying Spur), Scandal Keeper (Danzig), Vital Equine (Danetime) and Bradbury’s Luck (Redoute’s Choice).

Scandal Keeper was produced in America by Canny Miss, a three-quarter sister by Marscay to Canny Lad and Canny Lass who was exported after producing five winners in Australia.
