Sudden Death Of Young Victorian Sire

First season stallion Hurdy Gurdy Man has died after suffering a sudden attack of colic at Moorookyle Park Stud in Victoria.

The eight-year-old by Street Cry was trained by Darren Weir to win eight races, amassing over $450,000 in stakes.

Racing over five seasons, he won the G3 Hobart Cup in Tasmania and the Hamilton, Murtoa and Woodford Cups in Victoria, an achievement that earned him the title of 2013/14 Victorian Country Horse Of The Year.

Hurdy Gurdy Man left a handful of mares in foal including multiple city winning mare Shiny And New.

• Lauriston Park Stud reports that imposing Fastnet Rock stallion Rock Hero has returned a fertility rate in excess of 90 percent after covering his first 40 mares.

"I am rapt with how Rock Hero is working," said Lauriston Park’s Chris Bakker.

"His fertility is great and every mare who is ready to go is getting in foal straight away."

Rock Hero's dam, the high class mare Gallant Tess, is booked back to Snitzel having recently foaled a filly by the Arrowfield sire.

She also has a yearling filly by All Too Hard and her Redoute's Choice two-year-old Typhoon Tess is in the David Payne stable.

• Larneuk Stud's emerging stallion O'Lonhro has been represented by a trio of promising winners in the last week.

Kicking off the winning run was Larneuk's own Brightly Goes breaking her maiden at Echuca.

The second winner Social Media found the line extremely well at Hamilton before an impressive win at the Gold Coast by Je Suis Prest for her second win in four starts.
