Recent Sydney winner Song And Laughter underscores the lack of appreciation local breeders displayed for the now retired Sadler’s Wells stallion Song Of Tara.

Song And Laughter, a Kevin Moses trained 5YO mare with three wins from 11 starts to her credit, was bred by Joe O’Gara, who stood Song Of Tara at his Tobermory Stud near Goulburn.

Son Of Tara raced only six times for two wins at 2400m to Listed level in France and three Group placings in England and Ireland,

He is a brother to Salsabil (English Oaks, Irish Derby, 1000 Guineas), a three-quarter brother to Sadler’s Wells’ Breeders’ Cup Turf winner Northern Spur and a half-brother to champion sire Marju (Last Tycoon).

Retired from stud duty at the age 22 in 2014, Song Of Tara was only used as a sire at Tobermory, serving 16 seasons and has to date has had less 120 runners for 72 winners.

The majority, including all his seven stakes winners, were bred by Joe O’Gara and include multiple Group winner and multiple G1 placed No Wine No Song (10 wins); G3 winner and G1 placed Spirit Of Tara; and G1 placed Shamrock Shore.

Song And Laughter is a sister to four winners, including stakes placed the G2 placed Sydney winner Singing Flame and G3 placed Let Them Have It (7 wins).

They are three-quarter relation to Spirit Of Tara from What A Giggle, an unraced daughter of another sire Tobermory sire Air de France, the Seattle Slew stallion from Sea Bird’s champion mare Allez France.
